Week of September 6th-10th

i-Ready Testing: This coming week we will be taking both our i-Ready reading and math tests. Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep the night before and a good breakfast the morning of a test taking day (breakfast is free for all students who choose to take it in the morning at school). Also, please send in headphones if you have not done so yet as these are an important tool for the test.

Bucky Books: Bucky Books were sent home with each child last week. This is a fundraiser for the Eagle Point PTO. If you have any questions, please email eaglepointpto@gmail.com. Please see the attached sheets for purchase options or kindly return the book in your child's backpack as soon as possible. Thank you for your support of the Eagle Point PTO! KHEP Council: Third grade students have an opportunity to join KHEP Council this year. KHEP stands for Kid Helping Eagle Point. During your student’s time with KHEP Council, they will act as a role model for other Eagle Point students, attend KHEP Council meetings, and maintain positive behavior and work habits in all school settings. Along with being a strong role model, students will help create events at Eagle Point that help others (supply drives, dress days, etc.). Being on KHEP Council is a one trimester commitment. If your student is interested in helping others and being a leader, they can attend an informational meeting on Thursday, September 16th in Room 154.

Curriculum Update:
* Reading- We continued our first unit called "Building a Reading Life" by talking about the importance of finding a good spot to read, reading a book like it is "gold", and having meaningful conversations with our reading partners. We also talked about how to find good books and set a reading goal for ourselves.
* Writing- We started our first unit called personal narratives, true stories that happened to us. We talked about Do's and Don't of good writers and started jotting ideas for stories about people that are important to us.
* Spelling- We began reviewing the different sounds vowels make and learned how to encode words (stretch/ tap them out to hear all the sounds to help us become better spellers).
* Math: We continued reviewing writing numbers in different forms and using place value to round numbers. Check out the parent letter for this week here.
* Social Sciences- We began talking about the importance of having a growth mindset (thinking positively, growing your brain, and having perseverance).
